Generally, soldiers can consume food and water from airtight containers
after personnel decontaminate the containers. Discard unprotected food and
water except in extreme emergencies.

Decontamination.
Methods of decontaminating subsistence are described in the following

a. Nuclear.
radiation and fallout. Food is contaminated by induced radiation only if it
is very close to a nuclear blast.
Fallout may contaminate food that is
