PART B - SUPERVISE WELLHEAD OPERATIONS
As team chief of an operational DS water supply point operating on a
wellhead in a field environment, you will be required to supervise operation
of the wellhead. This will include both operating the 15-kw generator and
the submersible well pump and maintaining DS storage.
Make sure your soldiers know, understand, and follow
the
performance
measures in task 101-540-1047 found in STP 10-77W14-SM-TG.
1. If one is not already established, you may have to supervise the
installation of the generator on a completed wellhead.
Always ground the
distribution box to the ground rod, and always ground the pumping assembly
through the wellhead assembly to the ground rod.
Never energize the
distribution box or operate the pumping assembly unless they are both
grounded.
Injury, death, or damage to the pumping assembly, distribution
box, or generator could result if a short occurs without the pumping
assembly and distribution box being grounded.
a. Insert the end of the power cable coming from the wellhead into the
distribution box through one of the connectors. The outer jacketed part of
the cable must be through the connector and up to the output terminal lugs
marked T1, T2, and T3. Connect the leads as follows: black to T1, red to
T2, and yellow to T3.
b. Insert the end of the power cable going to the generator to the
connector in the bottom of the distribution box.
Connect the leads as
follows: black to Line 1, red to Line 2, and yellow to Line 3. Check that
the three fuses are in place and not cracked or damaged. Insert the other
end of the power cable to the generator. Connect the leads as follows: Line
1 to L1, Line 2 to L2, and Line 3 to L3.
2. Ensure your soldiers perform before-operation PMCS before starting the
generator.
They should log on DA Form 2404 all actions taken and any
deficiencies found. These forms should be given to you at the end of each
shift.
3. Set up the DS storage tank(s) as described in Lesson 2, Part A of this
ACCP.
4. Start pumping operations by closing and locking the door of the
distribution box. Energize the box by starting the generator. Open the 2-
inch gate valve on the wellhead.
Turn the switch on the front of the
distribution box to "ON" and then push the "START" button.
If the well
water is muddy, place the product hose out and away from the storage tank to
discharge
