Smoking Hazards. "No Smoking" signs should be posted near fuel points and within the operational
area of a ROWPU. Smoking is allowed only in designated areas away from equipment, fuels, and chemicals.
There should be no open flames within 50 feet of the unit.
Chemical Safety. You need to make personnel aware that dangerous chemicals are used in operating
the ROWPU. Stress that death, health hazards, or injuries such as severe burns, impaired vision, and
internal tissue destruction may be experienced if personnel fail to observe precautions in handling chemicals.
It is better to repeat this often than for someone to inattentively cause harm. Ensure that material safety data
sheets for all chemicals are available for review.
It is a very important safety measure that you, as a supervisor, not only tell, but also see that personnel
follow these precautions when handling chemicals:

mixing chemicals.
Clean up spills immediately.
Personnel Safety. As the NCOIC, you are responsible for not only managing the safety of your
personnel while operating a ROWPU, but also the overall safety of other personnel assigned to the mission.
These safety concerns include:
Place all electrical cables underneath hoses.
Be aware of equipment placement to avoid tripping over hoses or cables.
Remove all jewelry when working on batteries or electrical connections.
Do not play with or handle any animals or insects on the training sites.
Do not play in or near water sources.
Do not pour chemical wastes into water sources.
