INTRODUCTION
In 1992, the Federal Facilities Compliance Act was passed which did away with the federal government's claim of
sovereign immunity. In less than two years, the Army incurred more than million in fines and penalties --
many based on violations resulting from decades-old sites. As a petroleum officer, you should be fully aware of
what is entailed in environmental considerations. You should also be aware that whenever you are discussing
operations involving petroleum or other hazardous materials, you should stress the importance of environment
protection.
