LESSON 4
DIRECT PETROLEUM PRODUCTS SAMPLING AND GAGING
Critical task:
101-523-3408
OVERVIEW
When directing petroleum products sampling and gaging, it is necessary for the petroleum laboratory NCO to
have knowledge of requirements, identification of proper equipment, evaluation of operations, quantity
calculations, supporting laboratory submission, safety procedures, and implementation of a SOP.
Lesson Description:
During this block of instruction we will discuss sampling and gaging requirements, identification of proper
sampling and gaging equipment, evaluation of sampling and gaging operations, quantity calculations using DA
Form 3853-1, supporting laboratory submission, safety procedures, and the implementation of a sampling and
gaging SOP.
Terminal Learning Objective:
Action:
Acquire knowledge on determining sampling/gaging requirements, identifying methods for
sampling/gaging best suited to given situation, checking accuracy of sampling/gaging and
temperature measurement methods, verifying results are recorded correctly, and
identifying/observing environmental considerations.
Condition: Given all required materials.
Standards: This task will be accomplished according to MIL-HDBK-200, FM 10-67-1, FM 10-67-2, DA PAM
710-2-1, and current Annual Book of ASTM Standards (D-4057).
