INTRODUCTION
As a Petroleum Laboratory NCO, you play an important role in the proper handling of petroleum samples, to
include the receipt and the testing of those, as well as the forwarding of test results. You are the critical link
between the sending unit and the soldier who will test the sample. In the bigger picture of Army logistics, you
play a very significant role.
PART A - VERIFY THAT TESTING IS BEING CONDUCTED IAW APPLICABLE
ASTM TEST METHOD
Repeatability is the allowable difference between two results on the same sample by the same operator using
the same equipment. Reproducibility is the allowable difference between two results on the same sample by
different operators in different locations. Methods of correlation testing include:
Sending identical samples to two or more laboratories. These laboratories use the same apparatus in
performing the tests.
Having two or more technicians perform the tests. These technicians perform tests on identical samples
using the same apparatus under controlled conditions.
Single technician perform duplicate tests. This technician performs duplicate tests on identical material
using the same apparatus under controlled conditions.

As the senior laboratory technician, check that each sample container is tagged immediately after sampling
and review for accuracy at the required intervals. The sample tag should be filled out to the maximum
extent possible. A sample number should be assigned to the tag, and data should be recorded in the sample
