INTRODUCTION
Leadership and positive supervision are the keys to successful mission accomplishment. The
importance of water reporting and recording is to accurately form a data bank for site selection and sites
for future use. This lesson will address the proper procedures in preparing reports, logs, and forms.
Situation: You are the chief of a water point responsible for supervising subordinates completing water
reports, logs, and forms. You have a complete water team and all necessary equipment to accomplish
the mission.
PART A - WATER RECONNAISSANCE REPORT
DA Form 1712-R. A Water Reconnaissance Report (Figure 3-1) will be completed while your
reconnaissance team is still at the site. The preparer's goal when filling out this report is to provide as
detailed information as possible. You, as the supervisor, should review the report to ensure that the data
provided are accurate and that enough detail is included. This report will be prepared for each site
surveyed by the reconnaissance team. Remember to remind your reconnaissance team that they should
try to survey an average of three sites for each proposed water point. You, as the supervisor of the
reconnaissance team, will forward the completed forms to the G3/S3 of the tasking unit.
