of the ROWPU. The pump must also be within 100 feet of where your intake
strainer will draw water from. Keep in mind that the raw water pump should
be as close to the source as possible to limit the suction pressure on the
pump. Select an area that is level and firm. Ensure that the crew uses the
chain hoist to unload the raw water and distribution pumps. Have them check
the serviceability of the hoist before use. Your crew then moves the raw
water pump to that location.
6.
Have your crew assemble the correct amount of raw water suction hoses
with the strainer and deploy the anchor. Hoses are labeled for use with the
raw water system and distribution system. Keep the following in mind:
a. Place the intake in the center of narrow rivers.
b. Place the intake at least 50 feet from shore in wide rivers.
c. Place the intake as far out as possible at ocean beaches.
d. Make note of tidal or flood conditions and keep the pump located
beyond the reach of the water.
Ensure the crew inspects the hose ends and gaskets for damage and debris
before connecting the raw water hose sections.
The crew works their way
back toward the ROWPU, assembling the discharge hoses and cyclone separator.
You inspect the raw water intake system for proper connections, kinks, and
safety hazards.
7.
Have a soldier prepare the generator for operation and remind him that
the ground rod must be driven in at least 8 feet to be sure of a good
ground.
Double check all ground connections.
A poor ground can lead to
injury or death from electrical shock. Have the other soldier connect the
waste outlet and sump drain hoses. The waste and sump hoses are placed so
that the discharge is directed downstream or downgradient from the intake
strainer.
8.
Once your crew completes the setup of the generator and waste hoses,
you are ready to setup the water distribution system. You must remind them
that they only have 40 feet of potable water-to-storage hose and they must
place the storage tanks close enough so that the hose reaches the center of
the tank. Protective caps from the hoses should be removed only when the
hose is ready for connection.
The crew checks for damaged gaskets before
the connection is made. The tanks must be interconnected and located on a
smooth level surface and positioned to accommodate distribution equipment.
Ensure that raw water hoses are not used anywhere in the distribution
system,
