Polyelectrolyte Pump Settings
8.
You are now ready to establish the water flow.
You have one
crewmember prime the raw water pump properly and attach the hand pump to the
prime assist valve.
The raw water pump is started and the hand pump is
operated to pull air out of suction hoses.
Priming may take several
minutes.
Operation of the raw water pump, when not properly primed, will
result in damage to the pump. If pressure has not been established after 8
minutes check the following:
a. The elevation of the pump above the water level.
b. To see that the strainer is floating properly and not being held out
of the water.
c. Each hose connection between the pump and water's edge for gaskets,
gasket damage, and complete closure of the connector levers.
Ensure the
flapper will open.
9.
Check the discharge hose and the media inlet/outlet pressure gage to
assure pressure has been established.
If you see that the flow has been
established, the operator can start the chemical pump.
10. Have the operator start the booster pump when the media filter
The operator should slowly
close the feed valve until the feed flowmeter reads 100 GPM.
If 100 GPM
cannot be obtained have the crew check the following:
a. Discharge hose for kinks restricting the water flow.
