Supervising Personnel Safety. As the NCOIC, you are responsible for not only monitoring the safety of your personnel
while operating a ROWPU, but also the overall safety of other personnel assigned to the mission. These safety concerns
include:
Place all electrical cables underneath hoses.
Be aware of equipment placement to avoid tripping over hoses or cables.
Remove all jewelry when working on batteries or electrical connections.
Do not play with or handle any animals or insects on the training sites.
Do not play in or near water sources.
Do not pour chemical wastes into water sources.
Do not drag hoses or cables on the ground.
Allow no running or horseplay by your personnel in the area of a ROWPU.
Report all unsafe acts or conditions immediately.
Ground all equipment as required.
Use caution when operating electrical equipment in wet areas.
Use the proper lifting techniques when lifting and carrying equipment.
Use the required number of persons for the equipment as needed.
Operate equipment only when directed to do so.
Evacuate area in case of an emergency.
Ensure that there is a fire extinguisher within 25 feet of equipment.
Do not allow open flames within 50 feet.
Ensure that all personnel wear the proper hearing protection.

Monitoring Personnel. It is important to monitor personnel for the correct setup of the ROWPU. Refer to Fig. 1-4 for a
diagram of the major systems of the 3,000-GPH ROWPU.
