Situation. You are assigned to a main support battalion of a light infantry
division. You are the team chief of four soldiers and two 600-GPH ROWPU.
Your mission is to establish a water point providing support in the brigade
support area (BSA). After you completed reconnaissance of water sources, a
site has been selected for water purification operations. You must direct
your soldiers to position the 600-GPH ROWPUs to establish operations.
PART A - SITE SELECTION
You must use the following considerations to set up the water point:
-
Be sure site surface is firm enough to support the ROWPUs.
-
Position the ROWPUs as close as possible but within 75 feet of the
water source.
If possible, locate the control panels towards the water
source to limit use of hoses and ensure all pumps and tanks are within
sight.
- Check for proper disconnection of ROWPU trailers from the prime
movers. All leveling jacks are down and in locked position. Safety chains
are disconnected and stowed properly. Check that the ROWPU are level.
- Check that the ROWPUs and generators are properly grounded.
Grounding rods should be driven into the ground 8 feet with 1 foot
aboveground. Check that the grounding connections are tight and not easily
disconnected.
- Ensure the site provides downstream or a waste area drainage away
from the water source.
Wastewater should be discharged at least 25 yards
from the raw water source.
-
Consider variable weather conditions to avoid flooding.
- Ensure the bivouac site is located at least 100 feet downstream of
the ROWPUs.
-
Locate latrines at least 100 yards downstream of the ROWPUs.
-
Take advantage of available forest cover.
- Locate distribution operations as close as possible to finished
roads.
Road conditions must accommodate vehicles and personnel to
