PART B - SETUP SYSTEMS
Be sure the soldiers locate the raw water pumps as close to the source as
possible to limit suction pressure on the pumps. Location of the float must
ensure the strainer is at least 4 inches below the surface and does not rest
on the bottom of the source. The lead pump (raw water pump number 1) must
have no more than three 1 1/2-inch suction hoses connected to the strainer
and float. Raw water pump number 2 is connected to pump number 1 with no
more than two 1 1/2-inch suction hoses.
No more than three 1 1/2-inch
cotton hoses are connected from pump number 2 to the ROWPU.
To prevent
kinking of the cotton hoses, one 1 1/2-inch suction hose may be used to
connect the cotton hoses to the ROWPU.
However, if the suction hose is
used, ensure only two 1 1/2-inch cotton hoses are used to connect pump
number 2 to the ROWPU.
As the soldiers connect the raw water, backwash, and product water systems,
check that they do not drag hoses on the ground.
Rocks, dirt, or debris
entering the hoses will damage pumps. Check that the electrical cables are
routed alongside of hoses and do not present any safety hazards to personnel
operating the ROWPU.
Check hose connections for any air and water leaks
that would inhibit operations.
Check that the brine hoses are connected to the ROWPUs.
Check that the
backwash tanks are within reach of the brine hoses, at least 25 yards from
raw water source intake. The 2-inch gate valves are installed and the tanks
are properly inflated with air and covered. Check for installation of the
2-inch swivel adapters and 2-inch suction hoses from the gate valves to the
backwash pumps.
Check that the backwash pump strainers are installed
correctly.
Check that the 2-inch cotton hoses are connected from the
backwash strainers to the backwash connections on the ROWPUs.
Check that
the 2-inch cotton hoses from vent vessels and the 2-inch cotton hoses from
waste outlets are at least 25 yards downstream of raw water source intake.
Check installation of the in-line total dissolved solids (TDS) monitors on
the control panels. Check for up to two 1 1/2-inch suction hoses connected
from each ROWPU to product tanks number 1. Check for one 1 1/2-inch suction
hose from each tank number 1 to 1 1/2-inch gate valve to product tanks
number 2. Check for one 1 1/2-inch suction hose from each tank number 2 to
distribution pumps.
Check for one 1 1/2-inch cotton hose from each
distribution pump to distribution nozzles.
Check that the distribution
nozzles are hung on each nozzle stand and nozzle stands are firmly placed.
Check that product hoses are marked
