2-4. DD Form 1544
DD Form 1544 (Figure 2-3. Page 2-23) is an accountable form. Use it to record

the cash payment for government-furnished meals that you sell to authorized
personnel. The form is issued in prenumbered, covered books. The books consist
of 50 individual sheets and instructions for using the book. The books also
contain transfer and control receipts and a register for the issue of individual
sheets. A detailed explanation of how to complete the DD Form 1544 is
contained in the following paragraphs.
Use DD Form 1544 to record cash that you collect from individuals who

When an individual is designated to pick up rations, regardless of the type, for a
group, he is responsible for collecting the money for the rations in advance. He
collects this money from everyone who is responsible for reimbursing the
government for the meal. The designated individual gives the cash to the
contractor, to the FOS, or to a designated individual. He makes a one-line entry
on DD Form 1544 for all cash meals.
Use the following guidelines to assist in safeguarding:

Account for all DD Forms 1544 at all times.
Use a properly secured safe or a field safe to safeguard these forms.
DO NOT use field cabinets that employ steel lock bars or those that offer no
protection against forced entry.
Secure the safe permanently to a pan of a building. Alternatively, you may
keep the safe in a room that is manned around the clock.
DO NOT issue entire books to an FOS to retain in the dining facility safe.
Retain the books, the cash that you collect, and the completed individual
sheets in the headquarters.
Investigate the loss or the misappropriation of funds that you collect from the
sale of meals.
Transmit DD Form 1544 and turn in cash to the FAO. When it is not practical
to turn in cash, transmit these items by certified mail, by courier, or by
messenger.
